News: Mirror Phone Hacking Litigation, admissions and apologies in twenty nine more cases

TrinityMirrorOn 17  November 2016, Mirror Group admitted liability and apologised in twenty nine more phone hacking cases.  Statements in open court were read before the managing judge, Mr Justice Mann.

The statements on behalf of television personality Calum Best, model and socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and television presenter and the husband of the late Jade Goody, Jeff Brazier can be found here, here, and here.

Other claimants whose claims were admitted and settled by MGN included Natasha Kaplinsky, Les Dennis, Simon Clegg CBE, Steven Johnson and Audley Harrison MBE.Sulzeer  Campbell,  Lee Ryan, Abigail Titmuss and Steve McFadden.

There were reports of the staetments in open court in the Guardian and the Press Gazette but they did not feature in the rest of the press.

Although numerous cases have recently settled, it is understood that a substantial number of new claims have been issued in the Second Wave of the Mirror hacking litigation.

The settlements follow the substantial damages awards to Mirror claimants in the Gulati case (see our post here).  This decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court refused permission to appeal.
